REF: Charter Standard Clinic in Milton Keynes

As you all may be aware The FA administrate a Charter Standard Award.  It is a best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for all clubs outside of the Football League & Premier league.  It is a benchmark for quality and improving the experience of football at grassroots for all.

As part of the new National Game Strategy, Charter Standard is regarded as a priority for The FA and all County FA’s with a vision of at least 75% of Youth Teams (under 18) attaining Charter Standard by 2012.

The FA have also introduced the Charter Standard League Programme which is being piloted this year in several County FA’s and will be rolled out nationally in the 2009/10 season.  With this in mind it is imperative that we start to address this as Clubs and Leagues alike look to conform.

I would therefore like to notify you that I will be hosting a Charter Standard Clinic in Milton Keynes on Tuesday 26th August at Oakgrove Leisure Centre from 6pm – 9pm.  Sessions will be 30 minutes in length and I will be allocating sessions on a first come first served basis so please do not delay in getting your details back to me if you are interested.  Sessions will be to go over any applications that clubs are currently working on and to meet with clubs who are aspiring to become a Charter Standard Club.

Some of the benefits of becoming a Charter Standard Club are access to Umbro Kit and discounts, McDonalds Coaching courses as well as some new County FA benefits via the Charter Standard Association which was launched in the new edition of the Berks & Bucks FA Newsletter.

If you would like to meet with me on this evening then please reply via email on the attached form.

I have copied this email to Milton Keynes District 7’s and Milton Keynes & Border Counties League Secretaries also to promote to their member clubs.

I look forward to hearing from you.

With Regards

Steph

CMK Therapy: Clubs may recall from our meeting back in April where the League invited CMK therapy to give a presentation on sports injury. The aim is to help reduce injuries among youth players in Milton Keynes and speed the recovery of youngsters who do experience injury. Clubs should be encouraged to support this as it will be of real benefit to them and their players. Please should read the article on page 2 of this newsletter.

Stantonbury Campus: My name is Matt Higgins and I am a PE teacher at Stantonbury Campus. I am just enquiring as to whether any football clubs in Milton Keynes who are looking at increasing their catchment area for their club. I am currently looking for a club to come in and deliver some sessions to promote their club and football at Stantonbury Campus. The ideal time is in 2 weeks (30.6.08) as this will coincide with the National School Sport week. I myself used to coach at Brookend Colts but the difficulty is trying to find people who are attached to a club and are willing to give up some time during the school day to deliver a session.

New website look and feel:  Over the past weeks I’ve been looking at setting up a new look and feel for the League website.  This overhaul has many objectives, but the main one being an improved means of communication and reduction in overall workload.

The new site will aim to:

·        Provide simpler navigation

·        Be more informative

·        Improve the over image of the League

·        And generally be the place to be for 11 aside youth football in Milton Keynes

The new site also has the building blocs in place for online updates ranging from

·        Results

·        Fair play

·        Referee database

·        Player registration, deregistration and transfers

These online facilities are not in place yet.  They will be tested out and phased in based on feedback from the member Clubs.

You can however register and get you username of choice.  Only people who are registered will be able to submit, results, fair play…. (once they go live)

In the next few weeks I’d really appreciate feedback from interested parties as to the good and bad of the new website.

The new site is currently running alongside the existing site. You can have a look at the new site here.

Any and all feedback should be emailed to the webmaster.

Recommendation for Mr David Hamer:

Over the season 07/08, West Bletchley has had Mr David Hamer on several occasions refereeing our league and county cup games.

I wanted to write to you so that recognition can go to David as he has been outstanding in every game.

Not only has his ability to referee games to a high standard been shown, but he has also made the game a very pleasant and enjoyable experience for both Managers and Players alike with his conduct on and off the pitch.

He has a great personality and we have loved having David referee our games this season.  I would be extremely grateful if you could pass on our thanks.

While only David can make decisions regarding retirement from the game, it would be a great loss to the league and to those clubs that David has refereed for over the years.  All of us at West Bletchley FC would love to see David around next season and hope that the decision of retirement will be postponed for another season.

League Cup Finals weekend

This has now been confirmed for the 16th/17th/18th May at the Stadium:MK and we need some volunteers to help with the organisation on the day/s.

We need approximately 15 stewards for each match as well as a team of 8-10 ball boys. Ideally we would like stewards who are available for the whole day.

If we can get one team/club to supply the ballboys for each match then that would be good – and you get a mention in the programme.

If you are able to offer to help for some or all of a day – or the whole weekend – then please contact Neill Davy (Competitions Secretary) as soon as possible.

We hope to make this an event that the boys will treasure – but do need some support to achieve this.

Club Welfare Officer:  This is a further notice to remind ALL clubs with Youth teams, that it will be an FA requirement to have fully trained Club Welfare Officers in place prior to affiliation for the 2008-2009 season. Those officers MUST have previously attended the Safeguarding Children [formerly called Child Protection] Training Seminar. The course currently being rolled out is now the ‘Club Welfare Workshop’. Therefore if your club does not have a CWO with these two courses undertaken, you probably won’t receive affiliation for the forthcoming season.

I strongly urge all clubs to take a look at the following links and ensure that your club welfare officer is adequately trained and approved:

Referee Les Passey’s Report - M.K. City Colts -v- Coldharbour Colts Under 17's

I was the official at the above game today and feel that it appropriate to let you know as the Club Secretary and also the League know how much of a pleasure it was to referee the game today as all to often it is necessary for officials to have to put pen to paper to complain.

The game was a hard, competitive, combative affair but played in an excellent sprit with all decision accepted with minimal complaint from both sets of players. Pleasingly when an explanation for a decision was requested, which was few and far between, the approach was inquisitive and not confrontational as is very often the case.

The greeting from both managers was cordial and mutually respectful. As is often the case both were appealing for decision but not on one occasion was any appeal excessive and there was no dissent when the decision went against their side. The two assistant referees also need to be complimented, as without question, they are the best Club Officials I have had all season.

I had no cause to question any of the decisions they gave me and on more than one occasion they could quite easily have given me a decision to favour their side but did not. This I have no doubt played it's part in the sprit in which the game was played and the fact that I did not issue one caution and had cause to speak to just two players throughout the game.

In conclusion I would say that if every game was to be played in this manner then I am sure we would not be loosing the number of referees to the game as we currently are.

Referee Liaison John Horsley:  Would like to inform you of Referee Mark Gillett’s match report for the U15 game between Scot Youth & MK Wanderers A. The Match was played in extremely windy conditions which ruined the quality of football.  Despite this both teams tried to play flowing football although anything played off the ground was invariable affected by the wind. Overall the match was played in an impeccable spirit with only a handful of free kicks. Two minor injury incidents were dealt with by the players by kicking the ball out of play when opposition players were injured.  Both teams, including managers / officials, should be commended for their positive attitudes and sporting conduct.  A pleasure to ref.

For all managers from the league in the u12 and u14 age groups:   Spencer Guinchard and Edd Stein have now been installed as the management team for these age groups,  Spencer will be in charge of all communications between clubs and league and making sure all the information gets to the right people in time. And Edd Stein Ex  Birmingham City Head Coach will be involved in the coaching and management of the team. I think in the past they may have been a conflict of interest between club managers and rep team managers. Hopefully moving forward I believe that the club managers and rep managers should be working together so that we can bring back the feel good factor of the rep team and start putting together a rep team squad who can challenge anyone,  There is a lot a very talented players out there for some reason or another are not put forward for the rep squad.

If there is anything you would like to put forward about the running of the rep squad I am open to suggestions and would look at all suggestions with a open mind.

Regards

Spencer Guinchard

Graham Lancaster: As well as currently coaching Wootton Rangers U17's Graham is taking my UEFA "B" Licence with final assessment set for May.
The portfolio part of the course is now complete and he needs to concentrate on gaining as much practical experience as possible in delivering sessions be it Small Sided Games (8v8) or Phases of Play.

Graham would like to offer his services to conduct a coaching session with any of the clubs currently members of your league.

The sessions themselves would last around 30 minutes (could be part of their normal session) or 60 minutes where the session would be split into two.

The sessions could be either one offs or a series and would of course be free of charge.

The age of the side needs to Under 16 and above as this course is geared more towards 16 year olds and above. To undertake a Small Sided Game or Phase of Play there would need to be a minimum of 16/17 players so clubs may wish to draft in 1 or 2 from a different age group.

Graham already currently coaches on a Wednesday evening though would be more than happy to facilitate another evening in the week and/or even a Saturday.

Club Welfare Officer:  This is a notice to remind ALL clubs with Youth teams, that it will be an FA requirement to have fully trained Club Welfare Officers in place prior to affiliation for the 2008-2009 season.
